Beaconhouse Group of Schools Offers 15% Reduction in School Fees in Light of Extended MCO

Beaconhouse Group of Schools – one of the largest networks of international and private schools, has announced a 15% reduction in school fees in light of the announcement of the continued extension of the nation’s Movement Control Order (MCO).
This reduction in fees will apply to all of Beaconhouse’s 14 schools in Malaysia from pre-schools to secondary schools, benefiting close to 3,000 students and their families.

With the spike in the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent extension of the MCO to 28 April many Malaysians are feeling the pinch through pay cuts and uncertainties in their workplace. While the government stimulus packages have gone a long way towards helping Malaysians cope with the crisis; corporates, employers and individuals must play a bigger role to ease the strain on Malaysians.
Explaining about the reduction, Alister Bartholomew, Regional Director, Southeast Asia, Beaconhouse Malaysia said, “We understand the financial burden that some families may be facing amid school closure and economic slowdown. We are proud to be one of the first schools in the country to extend this gesture of goodwill to help the parents of our beloved students in these difficult times. Learning mustn’t stop, no matter what.”

A Malaysian transformative education approach for Youth in the 21st Century

As a parent of 2 lovely girls, I strongly believe that we need to keep up and adapt to the environment. A fundamental change that is needed urgently is our education system. It should be ever-evolving to ensure that our children are prepared for the local and international work place. I think it's time to leave behind the traditional classroom mindset that we are all familiar with, and adapt new ways to engage students and raise creative and innovative children!
Thanks to a lovely invitation, I recently attended a press conference that unveiled the insights of the ‘Education in the 21st Century – Our Impact’ (‘Impact Study’) at LeapEd Services Sdn Bhd (‘LeapEd’). A brief background on LeapEd, it was established as a social enterprise in 2010 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Berhad. They are also Malaysia’s first homegrown education service provider!
Their objective is to enrich lives through capacity-building and education transformation and have impacted over 71,000 students and in over 160 schools through its various intervention models such as the District Transformation Programme-AMAN (‘DTP-AMAN’), Islamic School Enhancement Programme (‘ISEP’), Ground-up School Transformation (‘GUSTO’) Programme, Program Sekolah Transformasi (‘PreSTasi’) as well as the nation’s first Trust Schools Programme (TSP 1.0) to date. In fact, it was my first time hearing about Trust Schools Programme and I found it to be an interesting approach to education! TSP 1.0 is LeapEd’s flagship programme designed to develop holistic students with 21st century capabilities.
In collaboration with Yayasan AMIR and the Ministry of Education, the programme is a customisable model to ensure its sustainability in Malaysian schools. Since its roll-out in 2011, TSP 1.0 has impacted over 5,300 parents and 65,000 students in 83 schools across 12 states in Malaysia.

Enrichment Centre Illuminates the Path to Effective Learning

Opening the doors to its third centre in Malaysia, White Lodge International Preschool (White Lodge) now introduces an inclusive programme for special children, on top of its existing offering of comprehensive early childhood care and education (ECCE) for children aged 18 months to six years. Its latest centre at Desa ParkCity aims to be the catalyst that includes special children in a normalised environment to result in a learning process that goes beyond the classroom, yet prepare them for primary education at both local and international schools.
Jayne Nadarajoo, Founding Director of White Lodge said: “Traditionally, the learning process for special children is contained, whereby interaction exists only between the children and the teachers. With the opening of White Lodge Desa ParkCity, we hope to impart learning that goes above that of our teaching syllabus, by teaching children to be accepting and empathetic to their peers. This echoes our aspiration for education that goes beyond boundaries and complements our goal for an Enrichment Centre that offers programmes that are specifically designed to enhance learning abilities.
“From our experience, children begin learning at a very young age and with proper early childhood education, it is possible to begin teaching them basic skills to excel. At White Lodge, we continue to innovate and experiment with tried-and-tested programmes to educate children and instil a desire to learn in them from a tender age. Through our enrichment programmes, we will be able to help them reach their full potential.”

Mother's Day 2019 is around the corner. As a mother of 2 girls, I am honoured to celebrate this day that is aim to honour motherhood with all mother around the World. English Made Easier at KLC Language Centre

We all know that English is an important language, it is the language of science, aviation, computers, diplomacy, tourism and many more industries. Hence, we Asian parents are concerned about our children's struggle in English. Especially in non-English speaking family, which the main language in my family is still mandarin.

Sadly, our local education system doesn't really encourage English. My daughter has to speak only Mandarin in the Chinese primary school hence her English level has dropped significantly over the past few years.

Knowing that English is the language of International communication, the media and the Internet, so learning English is important for socializing and work. I have planned to enroll my children into English Language Centre for them to master English language better.
I have recently came to KLC Language Centre at Bandar Puteri Puchong. Originated from Johor, KLC Language Centre has developed a proven method that enables the children to use English like a PRO. KLC focuses on helping children unlock their full potential through groundbreaking educational methods. Using language as the foundation of their syllabus, KLC help their children to build and enhance their communication, leadership and cognitive thinking skills.
In 2014, KLC launched their Language Centres and the KLC's MASTER KEY programme to connect with more students who were interested in learning English and to address the gaps in reading fluency and spelling accuracy among young learners. These efforts resulted in a significant improvement in the reading and comprehension abilities of our students and an increased interest in book reading, as well as a boost in their confidence levels.

Altuz Academy – The Academy for Dyslexic Children with Orton-Gillingham Approach

As a parents, we always put our children at the first priority. Over the years, I have been knowing friends whom children are diagnosed with Dyslexic. Dyslexic Children have trouble matching the letters they see on the page with the sounds those letters and combinations of letters make. And when they have trouble with that step, all the other steps are harder. Dyslexia can’t be “cured” – it is lifelong. But with the right supports, dyslexic individuals can become highly successful students and adults.
It is known that the lack of expert instruction and proper intervention to rectify the reading problems of dyslexic children before they fall behind in traditional schooling can lead to irreparable harm, low self-esteem and a widening gap that becomes increasingly difficult to close.

This has negative societal implications and it is a crucial responsibility of parents to ensure that their dyslexic children are able to read proficiently to ensure their quality of life.
The Orton-Gillingham Approach – the highly structured evidence-based approach to teaching reading and recognized by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), is now available in Malaysia with the opening of Altuz Academy, a premier education centre for dyslexia intervention.

All Academic Language Therapists at the academy receive the vigorous training and supervised practicum accredited by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE) and IDA.
The lady in black jacket - the founder of Altuz Academy, Dr Choy Su-Ling

“It is critically important that remedial specialists, educators and teachers working with dyslexic students be vetted, highly trained in an evidence-based approach with oversight and accountability. Literacy training should be comprehensive, accredited by an international organization and include a supervised practicum period. There should also be ongoing professional development for the sake of the children whom they work with,” said founder of Altuz Academy, Dr Choy Su-Ling.

Productivity Nexus for Retail and F&B Launches Three Flagship Programmes Targeting 7.2% Growth in Labour Productivity

The Productivity Nexus has once again proven its keen initiative of increasing human capital productivity by implementing Productivity Nexus for the Retail and Food & Beverage (F&B) industry. During the official launch of the Flagship Programmes held at Sunway Putra Hotel, KL on 8th Feb 18, invited media was given the first-hand information about this flagship programmes.
Targets a 7.2% growth in labour productivity in the industry to meet the 2020 National level productivity target of RM 92,300 per worker. Through this, the platform, driven by the private sector and supported by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tn Razak, aims to empower industry associations to become key change agents in the nation. This is because the collective power of industry associations offer a strong bridge to connect with enterprises and knowledge experts in each sector. The event was officiated by Minister of Human Resources YB Dato’ Sri (Dr) Richard Riot Anak Jaem.
At the moment, the Retail and F&B sector employs no less than 2.7 million people which marks a value-added of RM 89 billion – recording an 8.3% contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, the productivity in this sector remains as one of the lowest. This spurred the implementation of the Productivity Nexus which rides on the premise of sharing the economy’s best practices and being inspired by industry experts to further inspire the rest of the industry. The initiative is slated to involve 80 to 100 selected flagship companies.
There is no denying that digitalisation is the way of the future. Recognising this factor, the Retail and F&B Productivity Nexus Champion Dato’ Bruce Lim reiterated,”The Productivity initiatives for Retail and F&B have included support for digitalisation of business operation and honing e-commerce capabilities.”

Australian International School Recognised as First Visible Learning School in the World

As a parents of two, I emphasize a lot on my kids' educational journey. Education begins in early years, we as a parents should let our child explore, extend and excel in their academy. In fact, Education today is no longer about the consumption of knowledge. Schools today are preparing their students for challenges in real life and imparting skills that they would use in a highly competitive 21st century. With that, the role of a teacher in moulding citizens of the future is an ever important one and the learning approach in schools needs to change to reflect the needs of the future.
The Australian International School Malaysia, a part of Taylor’s Schools, knows how the delivery of an international curriculum is and has invested in equipping its teachers and students with a new teaching and learning method called the Visible Learning approach alongside the Australian curriculum. The school which has offered an Australian education in Malaysia for the past 17 years, held a launch ceremony on Thursday, 12 October 2017 to announce that it is the first Certified Visible Learning School in the world. This is testimony to its commitment to deliver outstanding teaching and learning practices at its beautiful campus in Seri Kembangan.
We were honoured to be invited to witness this memorable moment at the launch event. We have saw a lot of great performances by the talented students from AISM before the event began.
“The number one thing that differentiates an impactful teacher from others is their passion about children’s learning; a teacher who has taken time and effort to build up trust between themselves and the student. We are working hard to ensure this in our schools,” says BK Gan, President of Taylors Schools.

A Visit to Matrix Global School Malaysia

Having two lovely daughters, I have always been searching of a good school that let them seek knowledge with open minds. Lucky for us, there are many types of schools in Malaysia. From local government school, to home school, Private School and International School. What is your choice for your kid(s)?

As my younger daughter is growing up, I am looking for an alternative school for her because she is different from her sister. Hence, I have brought my younger girl to visit Matrix Global School Malaysia to know more about the school recently. Located at Bandar Sri Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan; Matrix Global School Malaysia is a nice campus.
We were welcome by Matrix Global School Malaysia’s Marketing Assistant Manager, Carynna Lim and her staff at the main entrance. Then we were led to a meeting room to meet and greet the principal, Denise Sinclair.
The Principal, Denise Sinclair

The Principal, Denise Sinclair has introduced us the history of Matrix Global School Malaysia and the aim of becoming the top school in Malaysia. Opened in September 2014, Matrix Global School Malaysia has a Pre-School, an International School as well as Private School in its large compound of 20-acre campus.

Matrix Global School Malaysia has the vision of one school with one vision. As students is the most importance of a school, Matrix Global School would emphasize on know, what, how and value added to their students. For this, they have a Cognitive Ability Test Version 4 (CAT4) implemented, curriculum mapping with academic structure, ensure the quality of the teachers recruited and retained, rigorous monitoring of teaching and learning, they also understand that learning can become truly individualised in Matrix Global School.

Mother’s Day 2017 Celebration @ 6000 Feet above Sea Level

Mother’s Day is a day I treasure a lot. After becoming a mother of two girls, I realised mother is a very important role in everyone’s life. Not only we gave birth to the child, we also spend our time and effort to nurture them.

This year, I was honoured to be invited to celebrate Mother’s Day with some other single mothers and children at above 6000 Feet above Sea Level. Yes, you guess it right, we had visited Resort World Genting on Mother’s Day 2017 which was fall on Sunday, 14th May 2017.
We depart to the Awana Transport Hub in the early morning. There, we were meet and greet by the friendly PR Team, and we queued to ride on the glass floor gondola cable car. It is truly one of our best start of the day. It takes just 10 minutes to ascend from Awana Station to the final stop, Sky Avenue Station. The gondolas fly over key attractions at the resort, giving passengers a bird’s eye view from Chin Swee Temple to the future Twentieth Century Fox World Malaysia. There is even mobile charger in the gondola so you don’t need to worry that your mobile phone goes flat from taking selfies or photos of the stunning scenery. Even though my younger girl and I am afraid of height, we still enjoyed the breathtaking view of the 130-million-year-old rainforest below.
My lil girl was so scared there lol

Once we reached the Sky Avenue, we proceeded to have lunch at the selected restaurants. In fact, there are plenty of restaurants available at Sky Avenue, including the famous Burger & Lobster, Cafes Richard, Babajia, Acme Bar & Coffee, Madam Kwan’s, Kyochon 1991, Morganfield’s, Canton-I, Dazzling Café, Ding Tai Fung and many more.
Miriam and I were glad to be invited to Tampopo, a Japanese and Korean fusion restaurant that specializes in Japanese noodles and home cooked dishes. Originated from Singapore, Tampopo has won various awards. We can’t wait to sit back, relax and enjoyed our scrumptious lunch at the contemporary restaurant.
