One in Three Malaysian Youths Wrestle with Self-Confidence

A recent survey conducted by Haircarebear, Australia’s leading hair, skin, and nail supplement brand, uncovered that one in three Malaysians struggle with self-confidence related to their appearance.
(From the left) Kittie Yiyi, Elfira Loy, Jovynn, Juwei Teoh, Caryn Loh (Managing Director of Watsons Malaysia & Regional Exclusives Director), Jimmy Seervai (Founder of Haircarebear), Sharifah Rose, Nurin Afiqah, Jovane, and Ash Edward.

“At Haircarebear, we believe that everyone is unique in their own way and every young individual should ‘glow’ brightly, embracing their unique beauty. Together with our retail partner Watsons Malaysia, we hope to inspire Malaysian youth self-assurance that radiates positively from within and supports them in building a healthy foundation for a vibrant future,” said Haircarebear Founder Jimmy Seervai, who was a finalist on MasterChef Australia with a background in food manufacturing.

In the survey, surprisingly, while Malaysians express confidence in their eyes, they spend the least on eye care. Facial attributes emerged as the second most significant factor influencing confidence, with 45% of respondents ranking facial features as the most attractive physical attribute.

Additionally, the survey also highlighted that Malaysians turn to social media and peers for confidence and inspiration, prioritising them over family.

Exploring the depths of youth self-confidence and its link to physical attributes, a meaningful panel discussion, moderated by Alexis Sueann, unfolded with influential personalities— model and singer Juwei Teoh, actress and social influencer Sharifah Rose, and Haircarebear Founder Jimmy Seervai, at today’s official launch event.

Engaging in vital conversations around personal and public perceptions of confidence, the discussion delved into the nuanced role of family, experiences, and societal expectations. Amidst candid shares and heartfelt stories, a consensus emerged: confidence is an inside-out journey, intertwining self-acceptance with kind, genuine online and offline interactions, and a nurturing environment that starts within our homes and communities.

Dettol Malaysia Takes The Lead in Curbing The Spread of Infections with Key Health Experts

To earmark Global Handwashing Day 2023, Dettol in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH), Global Hygiene Council (GHC), Infectious Disease expert Professor Dr Zamberi Sekawi and Watsons came together for an informative panel discussion to exchange insights around the importance of improved hygiene practices and contextualise global and local public health landscapes. This joint effort by key health experts is aimed at supporting the Ministry of Health’s Madani Afiat programme in encouraging the adoption of more effective hygiene and handwashing habits across Malaysia.
(From left): Tiffany Tang, Marketing Director for Health, Malaysia and Singapore for Reckitt; Christopher Wong, Chief Operating Officer, Malaysia Book of Records.

During the discussion, it was determined that communicable diseases are on the rise as comprehensive handwashing and hygiene practices adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic are diminishing despite sustained handwashing being the single most effective preventative measure. The panel also stressed that the spread of infectious diseases and the effects of a changing climate are only intensifying.
(From left): Dr Ho Bee Kiau, Ministry of Health, Family Physician Medical Specialist; Professor Dr Elizabeth Scott, Chair of The Global Hygiene Council; Professor Dr Zamberi Sekawi, Professor and Senior Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, University Putra Malaysia; Tiffany Tang, Marketing Director for Health, Malaysia and Singapore for Reckitt; Danny Hoh, General Manager, Marketing & Customer Growth for Watsons Malaysia.

Professor Emerita Elizabeth Scott, Chair of the GHC, reported that the devastating impact of infectious diseases on society has never been more evident. As the COVID-19 pandemic shows signs of ending, ¹the ‘silent pandemic’ of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is ongoing, with AMR recognised as one of the largest threats to human health. ²It is estimated that, in 2019, the deaths of 4.95 million people were associated with drug-resistant bacterial infections. ³If no action is taken to stop the spread of AMR, this could rise to 10 million deaths a year by 2050 with common procedures such as caesarean sections carrying greater risks.

The GHC recognises that hygiene practices such as handwashing, demonstrate an accessible means to tackling AMR through reducing the risk of infection and the need for antibiotics. Hand hygiene can help to reduce the spread of infections protecting 1 in 3 children affected by diarrhoea and has shown a 30% reduction in antibiotic prescriptions for children with respiratory infections. With that in mind, the GHC urges governments and policymakers to elevate hygiene's importance to protect millions of lives.

Comfort and Convenience Home - Izara at Bayu Sutera, Bandar Sri Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan

As a foodie, hubby and I always love to try and taste new food. We decided to have a food trip during the long weekend holiday last week. Despite having food in Ipoh or Penang; Seremban is one of the best places to enjoy the local gourmet food because the travel time to travel is just around one hour from Kuala Lumpur. it’s so near and very convenient to reach via PLUS highway!

This time we tried out Seremban famous baked crab. The black pepper cheese crab and salted egg crab taste really good! After finishing our scrumptious meal, we decided to wander around Seremban.
Suddenly, we saw a beautiful clubhouse as we ventured into Bandar Sri Sendayan, Seremban. Our curiosity led us to explore further at the club house. Named as d’Tempat Country Club, it offers a host of recreational options, banquet spaces and dining establishments to create a monumental space for residents there.
The club house is indeed an ideal place for the family to spend time together doing sports, such as swimming, bowling, playing snooker, reading books at the reading room, watching movies at the movie room, enjoying massage time at the spa and many more exciting activities. I really wish to stay in a place that has a magnificent club house like this.

Anlene Mobility Check Screening Reveals Concerning Bone Health Risk among Malaysians

Anlene, Malaysia's No.1 Adult Milk Powder*, a pioneering force in advocating bone, joint, and muscle health over the past three decades, has unveiled an eye-opening revelation through its Anlene Mobility Check, an ultrasound bone scan and muscle strength test which started in May 2022 and has assessed over 20,000 Malaysians to date. The screening found 50% of Malaysian adults are at risk of poor bone health1, which can potentially lead to bone diseases such as osteoporosis that may affect one’s mobility.
The screening results further revealed that weak muscle strength is prevalent in 1 out of every 3 Malaysian adults1. This free screening was carried out through a series of roadshows starting in May 2022 and is open to adults 19 years old and above, aimed at assessing their bone and muscle.
Ganesh Thiagarajan, General Manager of Fonterra Brands Malaysia & Singapore said: “Result from the mobility check highlights a concerning trend of low awareness among Malaysians towards the significance of bone health, emphasizing the pressing need to tackle mobility-related risks in our nation. At Anlene, we firmly believe that promoting preventive measures against osteoporosis can significantly reduce its prevalence within our population. Our goal is to enable individuals to proactively embrace the vitality of their bones, joints, and muscles and to keep them in good condition to stay active as long as they can.”
In conjunction with World Osteoporosis Day 2023, Anlene Malaysia reaffirms its steadfast commitment to promoting robust bone health awareness and education among Malaysians. To empower individuals with a deeper understanding of their bone health and encourage proactive care, Anlene Malaysia joined forces with its retail partner, AEON and its healthcare partner, Columbia Asia Hospital Puchong.
