A Taste of Tradition for a Meaningful Reunion at Purple Cane Tea Cuisine

Where the year really begins: family reunion dinner. It is the most important occasion of the Chinese New Year celebrations for the Chinese all around the world. Where family members head back home from near and far to reconnect with one another over the most important meal of the year.

A never to be missed occasion, the reunion dinner cherishes the tradition of loved ones eating together, expressing gratitude and welcoming the new year with hope and prosperity.

As the Year of the Horse kicks off this 17th February 2026, bring your family and loved ones along to Malaysia’s first tea restaurant, Purple Cane Tea Cuisine, for a homely, warm and comfortable meal of Chinese cuisine that revels in the time-honored tradition of reunion dinners.

A Reunion Dinner for all

“For this joyous new year’s reunion, we offer a choice of four different CNY sets of tea-inspired cuisines for the small families of four to those with extended ones of ten pax. Priced between RM 388 to RM 1,388 per set, there is even the choice of a set suited for vegetarians,” shared Ms. Lee Poi Kuen, Chief Financial Officer of Purple Cane Tea Cuisine.

Limited Edition BOH Cameronian Gold Blend Canister

BOH Plantations Sdn. Bhd. (BOH) has released the Limited Edition BOH Cameronian Gold Blend Canister in conjunction with the 17th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards.
The canister design aptly captures this year’s BOH Cameronian Arts Awards theme, Antara Satu Sama Lain (Together with One Another), which speaks volumes of the importance of relationships and collaborations that are instrumental in driving the performing arts industry towards excellence. It also underscores the invaluable camaraderie and support demonstrated among performers, supporting crew, producers and all involved in the industry to raise the bar and encourage creative pursuits. It is certainly a timely theme with the challenges facing the performing arts industry in view of Covid-19 pandemic.
The canister’s calm and cool ‘constellation’ design highlights the bond of friendships that helps each person shine brightly like stars in the sky. It also brings to mind the calming effects of a good cup of tea; tea helps us forge new relationships, warms our souls and carries us through the night. The constellation design concept reinforces how much we need one another in life’s journey; something that has shone through community life as we tackle the health pandemic that has gripped Malaysia and countries around the world. Truly, we need each other when we are sailing through life and skies are clear as well as in stormy weathers.

Ardent tea lovers can enjoy BOH's exclusive Cameronian Gold Blend Pyramid Teabags before adding this limited edition canister to the series which has been produced over the years to mark the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards.

New Matcha Sakura Tea Series Inspired by the Matcha Traditions of Japan @ The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®

In recent years, as society progresses and our stress levels increase, more and more people are looking to cultural traditions to enhance their lives. From yoga and meditation to ancient superfoods, many practices from Asia’s oldest cultures are seeing a revival as people strive to embrace a life that is more balanced and holistic. As a result, it’s no longer unusual to find age-old beverages such as Japanese green tea on shelves and in eateries, and greater interest in experiencing the serenity of tea appreciation ceremonies.

Though it’s been around for a long time, many aren’t aware that green tea retains its beautiful colour because it’s unfermented and thus retains more of its nutritional benefits. It may also be revelation to some that Japanese green tea comes in different forms, with the most common being sencha and matcha; sencha is brewed as whole leaves while matcha is ground into a powder and mixed with water, resulting in a creamier flavour.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® (CB&TL) builds on this revival of cultural flavours with its latest beverage series Matcha Sakura, using ceremonial-grade matcha harvested with first-flush Tencha and stone-milled to preserve its superior quality, says David de Candia, Tea Master for CB&TL. These premium green tea leaves are sourced directly from a small-scale family farm in Shizuoka, Japan that has been around since 1923, in order to keep the traditional harvesting methods alive while the small batches ensure the quality of leaves. The tea leaves for this grade of matcha are shade-grown for almost 30 days, resulting in the vibrant green in colour, before being hand-plucked so that the leaves are not bruised. The leaves are then steamed and deveined, before being ground slowly to powder-like consistency in a granite mill over many hours.
To further enhance its flavour and to bring a new experience to tea drinkers, the matcha is then blended with a Japanese sakura syrup, made from the delicate flowers that bloom in spring, to create two Matcha Sakura beverages: Matcha Sakura Ice Blended® drink (RM17.50/S and RM18.50/R), topped with sakura whipped cream and drizzled with sakura blossom syrup, and Matcha Sakura as a hot or iced latte (RM15.50/S and RM16.50/R respectively).

3 Best High Tea in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Growing up in Kuala Lumpur City made me a city girl that loves to hang out with my besties over high tea. The traditional English afternoon tea (high tea) is popular here because we were influenced by British colonial. Today I’m gonna share my best places for high tea in KL.

First, TWG
We love TWG as it is available in major shopping malls in town. We can enjoy it almost anywhere and anytime after shopping.
Among all the hot and cold dishes, we love the Matcha Financiers Recipe the most.
Just a small tip to you who have yet to visit TWG, do note that their tea is not refillable. Hence, sip your tea wisely otherwise you gotta spend extra RM 20 or more for a pot of tea.
TWG Tea at Pavilion KL address:
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur,
Level 2, Lot P2.16.00 & 2.34.01, 168, Jalan Bukit Bintang 55100
Kuala Lumpur
Tel: + 60 3 2142 9922
Opening Hours:
Monday - Sunday, 10am - 10pm

Secondly, Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
As one of the most historical building in KL that was built in Colonial time, Majestic Hotel is a beautiful place to enjoy high tea and take pretty pictures.

Mao Yan Mei (MYM) Tea

One of my favorite beverage is Chinese Tea. I’ve been drinking Chinese tea since I was teenager, and recently I’ve tried a new tea - the Mao Yan Mei(MYM) tea.
Mao Yan Mei is one of the world’s rarest edible plants because it grows at 1,500 meters above the sea level around the precipitous cliffs and crags embraced by clouds and mist. As MYM has the highest concentrations of highly active flavonoids compounds among all wild plants and contains 17 amino acids including methionine, leucine and glutamic acid as well as 14 trace elements such as calcium, iron, zinc, selenium and others, it is commonly known as the “Godly Tea” or “folk magical tea” in China.
With the certification from Hunan Provincial Government (State Ministry of Health in China), MYM tea is proven that it has unique and multiple healing and medicinal efficacy and versatile usefulness. It does not bring any negative side effects and is suitable to be consumed by everyone from all ages.
MYM tea is able to prevent and cure illnesses such as the “Three Highs Disease” (meaning high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugar), cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, insomnia, asthma and liver disease.
